Little Downy Dude
| 3 imagesA Downy Woodpecker showed up in my yard a week or so ago. He was always creeping up my trees…on the backside…so I could never get any good shots of him. My parents purchased Alan Murphy’s book “Guide to Songbird Setup Photography” (an EXCELLENT guide, BTW), and I put his tips and tricks to use. I wasn’t out in my back yard for more than 10 minutes after having set up a bunch of perches that this little downy dude took strait to my large dead log perch, giving me a few excellent shots. He tapped around for a while, found the suet hidden away in it, and then was out of sight again.
Amazing shots – you’re hidden suet worked well.
Aye! I have to get some better perches this year, and try again. We have several northern flickers here now, and I think there are a couple breeding pairs.
