
This morning before work, I logged onto my computer to check the progress of my ongoing disk scan. Sometime during the night, it seems my hard drive stopped functioning completely. The scan stopped, the drive no longer appeared as a device attached to my system…and there was no sign of my files. Well, I had no time to deal with it then, so I headed to work. Since coming home, I’ve been hard at work dissecting my computer trying to find the problem. I think I finally found it…
Well, the moment finally arrived, and I pulled the trigger: In two weeks time, I’ll be the proud owner of a brand new Canon EF 600mm f/4 L IS II lens! I’ve been waiting for the price to drop, and in support of that endeavor, I put in some price alerts at http://www.canonpricewatch.com. Several of the lenses I’ve had my eye on dropped in price over the last few days…

The 300mm lens I rented gave me a bit of a scare. I recently purchased a program, Reikan FoCal. This is a focus adjustment and performance evaluation tool that is actually pretty handy for its low price. I originally purchased it to fine tune the focus of my Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS lens, which has been focusing soft on my 7D. FoCal is capable of automatically determining which AutoFocus Micro Adjustment (AFMA) setting will produce ideal results, which is extremely handy. I purchased the Pro version of FoCal in order to get some additional features, such as an aperture test series that will tell you which aperture produces the highest resolution. I decided to run a quick aperture test on the 300mm f/2.8 lens tonight, and its a good thing I did! (read more…)
