Sunset Silhouettes

In line with my previous blog, Flight of the Gulls, I found more photos I should have given more of a chance. Taken on the same day, these silhouettes of gulls, grebes, and ducks all came out too dark and too noisy. That is, until I decided to simply do away with any bird detail, and take advantage of the silhouettes they really were. Sometimes shooting from the back side of a bird, against the sun, presents unique opportunities to create a different kind of art. I’m rather pleased with how all these turned out, given the otherwise poor quality of the originals. In particular, I really love how grebes look when silhouetted against sunset reflecting waters. Of them all, my personal favorite is the first and featured photo. I just love the delicate variety of colors in the water, and the pose of the grebe.
