Sunset Silhouettes
| 7 imagesIn line with my previous blog, Flight of the Gulls, I found more photos I should have given more of a chance. Taken on the same day, these silhouettes of gulls, grebes, and ducks all came out too dark and too noisy. That is, until I decided to simply do away with any bird detail, and take advantage of the silhouettes they really were. Sometimes shooting from the back side of a bird, against the sun, presents unique opportunities to create a different kind of art. I’m rather pleased with how all these turned out, given the otherwise poor quality of the originals. In particular, I really love how grebes look when silhouetted against sunset reflecting waters. Of them all, my personal favorite is the first and featured photo. I just love the delicate variety of colors in the water, and the pose of the grebe.
I think the effect is absolutely stunning! Lovely.
Thank you, Kim. Ironically, I’ve always wanted to put some effort into sunset silhouettes…funny that it took an accident to actually make me do it. š
I love when it happens that way! š
sublime. I have a sudden feeling of “calm”…
Photographing birds at Cherry Creek are the best of the relatively few moments in my life that are quiet and still. There is a city all around the park…but for some reason, in this one area, everything is quiet. You have the distant hazy buzz of traffic, but it’s just a quiet hiss…everything else is just nature: lapping water, a quiet breeze, and the occasional call of a bird. It really is sublime…
…you take amazing pics and write eloquently, is there anything that you are miserable at?!! do tell š
Ah, well thank you. š That’s very kind.
I have to figure I am quite miserable at a lot of things…I just have a tendency not to do them as a result! š I can’t really cook to save my life, for one…so I generally keep my cooking to a minimum. When it comes to the things I do do…I always strive to do them as best I possibly can through concerted, dedicated, persistent effort (something that is excruciatingly time consuming, to be quite honest…so I’m only really good at a few things.)
Good to hear you’re normal like the rest of us!
best,
maureen
