While photographing the shorebirds a week ago, a trio of Marbled Godwits were startled from their hunting grounds. The three flew by in formation, presenting an amazing opportunity to get some great in-flight shots. It can be tough getting shots of shorebirds in flight…they startle on a dime, and when they do, they usually take off very quickly, before you have a chance to frame and photograph them. If you do, they are usually flying away from you. I was a ways down shore from where the Godwits were hunting, which gave me time to zero in on their flight trajectory, lock focus, and get some amazing shots. The third shot and last shot of this sequence are my two favorites, I think.
