Long-billed Dowitchers: Fall Reflections
| 7 imagesAnother batch of long-billed dowitcher photos. This time framed against the fiery orange reflections of the heart of fall, 2012. The featured photo is my favorite of the bunch…these two were inseparable for a while, moving down the beach in lockstep. It was difficult to get a good shot for a while until, for only a moment, they lined up strait off my lens, giving me one of the great shots I’d been waiting for!
Tremendous shots of these very cool birds! Wonderful lighting and background.
Thanks, Phil! 🙂 I completely agree with you, very cool birds! I’d never seen a dowitcher in person until this shoot. I thought they were snipes at first. I love shore birds…I don’t know why, but they really intrigue me. I love all birds, but shore birds are constantly on the move, constantly feeding, and have these really interesting bills. I remember loving to visit one of the bird sanctuaries along the cost of California where I grew up as a kid…the birds I always wanted to see were sandpipers and great blue herons. Guess I never grew out of loving the sandpipers (and all their kin.)
Absolutely beautiful! The golden light is especially nice.
Thank you, Sue! The light had its moments that day…most of the time, it was rather brooding and gloomy. I tried to make use of the good moments as best I could.
