Blue Sky Birdies
| 3 imagesOut in Cherry Creek is a great big dead tree. It is a hangout for certain kinds of birds though. A Northern Flicker can usually be found there, and periodically one of the beauties of the small hawk world, an American Kestrel, can be found hunting around there as well. I managed to capture photos of both, framed against a deep blue sky, in September last year with a hand-held, rented EF 300mm f/2.8 L IS II w/ EF 2x TC III (600mm combo). Nearby, a Western Kingbird hunted flys from a power cable.
Wow, what a beautiful bird! And a lovely shot!
Aye, they are beauties. American Kestrel is the smallest North American hawk, and is also apparently the most common falcon here too!
